INTRODUCTION
The Casio AE1200 also known as the “Royale”, is one of the most mod-friendly digital
watches ever made. With a clean filter tint, you can transform its personality completely : stealth black, neon green, vaporwave purple, Joker multi-color, world-map blues, retro amber…anything you imagine.
This guide walks you through the entire modding process from start to finish. Everything is
written for someone who’s doing this for the first time. By the end, you’ll know exactly how to:
– Open the watch safely
– Remove the faceplate
– Place a gel filter without bubbles or dust
– Re-assemble the module and button levers correctly
– Avoid the mistakes that ruin most mods
Let’s begin
1. PREPARATION
1.1 Choose Your AE1200 Variant
All variants can be modded using the same process:
– Black (AE1200WH-1A)
– Gold (AE1200WH-5A)
– Silver Black (AE1200WH-1C)
– Silver + Steel (AE1200WHD-1A)
Only the exterior color changes — the internal design is identical.
2. TOOLS REQUIRED
Must-Have Tools
– Small Phillips screwdriver
– Double-sided tape (thin, clean — Scotch recommended)
– Scissors (micro scissors work best)
– Microfiber cloth
– Strong LED light
Highly Recommended Tools
– Tweezers (for precise lifting)
– Dust-removal putty (Rodico/Bergeon type)
– Gloves (no fingerprints)
– Small tray (for screws)
Clean workspace = clean mod.
3. FILTERS — WATCHMODFUN EDITION
The filter is the soul of your AE1200 mod. It determines clarity, color intensity, and overall
finish.
3.1 WATCHMODFUN FILTER PACKS
“Each pack includes one perfectly cut gel filter designed specifically for the AE1200 mod. If
you want multi-color window designs , Simply purchase additional colors from the available options.”
These filters are special because:
– I tested multiple suppliers
– Rejected anything with haze, blur, color washout
– Selected the clearest and strongest gel film
– Cuts are precisely sized for AE1200 modding
– Compatible with single-window and multi-window concepts
4. LET’S START MODDING
This is the crystal-clear, beginner-friendly, point-by-point version.
4.1 OPEN THE WATCH
1. Place the watch face-down On a microfiber cloth to avoid scratches.
2. Remove the four screws Use the small Phillips screwdriver. Place the screws in your tray.
3. Lift the backplate Use your nail or tweezers gently under a corner.
4. Protect the black gasket This rubber ring keeps the watch water-resistant. If it falls out:
keep it safe - you’ll reinstall it later.
4.2 REMOVE THE MODULE
1. Lift from a plastic corner Never pry from the buttons. The module is sturdy , a firm lift
is normal.
2. Set the module aside safely Preferably face-down to reduce dust landing on it.
4.3 REMOVE THE FACEPLATE
1. Flip the watch face-up Hold it gently.
2. Give it a small shake The faceplate will slide out on its own. This avoids risky tweezers
near the glass. Set the faceplate aside.
5. APPLYING THE FILTER
This is where precision matters.
5.1 APPLY DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE
Work only on the backside of the faceplate. Place thin strips of tape in these four safe zones:
– Top-right – above the circular world-time window
– Left & right of the circular window – thin half-width strips
– Below the circular window
– Bottom-left – under the main time window
Rule: No tape should be visible in any window. Press the tape down with tweezers so it adheres.
5.2 PLACE THE FILTER
1. Peel the front protective layer Keep the back layer on for now.
2. Place the filter onto the tape zones Ensure all windows are covered. It doesn’t need to
be “perfectly centered,” only fully covering every opening.
3. Trim any excess edges So the faceplate fits back into the case smoothly.
4. Peel the back protective film Your tint is now ready.
6. DUST REMOVAL - THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP
This is the difference between a premium mod and a ruined one.
6.1 CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE GLASS
Use dust-putty, not cloth. Tap lightly — do not rub. Hold the watch under a strong LED and inspect carefully.
6.2 CLEAN THE FACEPLATE + FILTER
Once you pick the faceplate up: don’t set it down again until it’s inside the watch. Check:
– All corners
– Circular world-time ring
– Edges of each small window
– Front and back surfaces
Remove every visible dust speck.
7. REASSEMBLY
Now put everything back step-by-step.
7.1 INSERT THE FACEPLATE
Align the top-left notch. The plate should fall in naturally.
7.2 INSERT THE MODULE
Press the module in with your fingers. Check button levers: Each of the four metal levers must sit behind its button pusher. If not, pull each lever inward until you hear a small click.
7.3 REINSTALL THE GASKET
Make sure the black gasket sits flat and clean. No twists, no dust.
7.4 CLOSE THE WATCH
Place the backplate and tighten the screws in a cross-pattern:
1. Top-right
2. Bottom-left
3. Top-left
4. Bottom-right
Do not overtighten.
8. FINAL FUNCTION CHECK
Test all buttons:
– Light
– Mode
– Search
– Adjust Check display clarity under strong light. If everything works — your WatchModFun AE1200 is ready.
